KATARSIS - PORTUGAL

18th October 2007
Jim, our Chief Executive has been asked to attend and contribute to the international KATARSIS conference in Lisbon, 28 January – 1 February 2008: The conference themes are: Growing inequality and social innovation.
KATARSIS is a coordination action funded under the European Commission’s Framework Program 6. It aims to bring together researchers and practitioners working on socially creative strategies to combat social exclusion to exchange ideas, programs and methods … Check the Katarsis website http://katarsis.ncl.ac.uk
KATARSIS has now been running for approximately one year, during which time they have conducted literature surveys on socially creative strategies in five ‘existential fields’ (Social Economy and Employment; Education and Training; Health and Environment; Housing and Neighbourhood; Governance).
The next step is to integrate these surveys with practitioner and other perspectives to develop broader understandings of bottom-up creativity, governance, and the concept of social innovation.
Pedestrian is proud and excited to be involved with research at this level.

The Arts Council are very interested in developing the links between the private promoters out there who achieve so much with so little and learning lessons from them, and supporting their work. Pedestrian has been engaged to look at ways of supporting these clever, clever individuals and team out there across the region and developing pathways for new talent. We are into Phase II of the research.
