Mark Newman
My involvement with Pedestrian began as a DJ and tutor, which evolved into a co-opted committee member and subsequently my current role as technical director. I am also the creator and producer of the Tutoritool™ interactive turntablism tutorial tool.
As an artist I’m a Hip-Hop DJ first and foremost. My DJ career began in the golden era of Hip-Hop, supporting artists at local events from the US and UK scenes including KRS-1, The Demon Boys, Queen Latifah, DJ Cash Money, Original Concept, 45 King etc. etc.
Myself and Groove B founded Funk by Funk in the early 90’s and found a home in the Acid Jazz scene, becoming resident DJ's at Fat Jam playing alongside guest DJ’s D-Zire, Snowboy, Dodge, I.G. Culture, Andy Smith etc. This lead to our own show on Northampton’s multi-cultural community radio station Inspiration fm and our own promotions (Groove Connection & Do It Fluid) continuing the Fat Jam's legacy alongside DJ's Eddie Piller, Andy Lewis, George & Bones, Dean Rudland, Killer Jim, Chubby Grooves etc. etc.
Currently I'm resident DJ at Sno-Storm - still playing, cutting and mixing up Hip-Hop beats and Deep Funk 45’s, alongside DJ Maniphest and guests DJ Format, Yungun & Mr Thing, Killa Kella, Blade, Rob Life, First Rate, The Nextmen, Ghost, The Scratch Perverts, DJ Yoda, Phi-Life Cypher and more. As a producer my production work varies between Hip-Hop, Turntablism, Lo-Fi and/or a combination of the three. Currently I'm focusing on a number of projects with a range of different artists that will start trickling out in the next 12 months, in addition to developing future Tutoritool™ products for Pedestrian.
