Glen White
Turntablist/Drummer/Percussionist/Promoter
DJ Name: Mista Meana
I am a tutor for Pedestrian, teaching turntablism. Since I heard my first scratch at the age of 13 I have been passionate about DJing and turntablism and now through Pedestrian workshops I am able to share this passion and enthusiasm with young people.
I started playing the drums at the age of 10 and was a competent drummer a couple of years later. My interest in mixing, scratching and turntablism came about from listening to music that incorporated these skills, notably Hip-Hop. Many years later, after watching countless DMC DJ battle competitions, I decided I wanted to learn these skills myself. With the aid of a student loan I bought my first set of turntables and a mixer and began to practise!
I now tutor and DJ at venues around Leicester including Maiyango on Saturday nights and co-promote ‘Bug Out’ - a monthly hip-hop/funk/beats night at Esko on Humberstone Gate every 2nd Friday of the month with Dan Wilkinson.
I perform live as part of the group El Mahico (a five-piece collaboration inspired by Latin/Flamenco/contemporary world music and rhythms) and do all of the scratching on our recorded work. I also perform live with El Mahico guitarist Paul Anderson as guitar/DJ duo The Beat Crackers.Check our our website
