Pedestrian are pleased to welcome Kevin Russell to our team as our new Talent Match Team Facilitator. This role will be primarily involved in running our delivery for Talent Match, which is a Big Lottery investment project to help long-term unemployed young people to gain employment across England. Kev will be recruiting young people to the Talent Match Team Executive Board and then helping them to organise and run events in the Leicester and Leicestershire area.
I have just come from heading up the improvements in St Martin’s Square and the independent quarter. Three years ago, we came up with an idea to improve the area through art, music and events. We put on everything from children’s reading workshops, music events and public celebrations for King Richard III and Leicester City FC’s Premier League winning season.
I ran my own events company for 3 years: creating events for festivals, venues and companies around the midlands; specialising in arts and music programs. This company arose from an arts collective I formed and headed up whilst at University called The Mud Collective.
As well as the events, I am a graphic designer and winner of Dave’s Comedy Festival Best Poster; a vinyl DJ specialising in Jazz, hip hop and afrobeat; I run a small speaker and PA equipment hire service; and create podcasts, having completed a degree in Radio Production at De Montfort University and working on BBC Introducing during my time there.
I am looking forward to passing on my passion and experience to others, and watching young people not only achieve their potential, but act as inspiration for others.
